Waterloo police flag email scam redirecting e transfers

16 August 2026 · Source: kitchener.citynews.ca

Waterloo Regional Police say a fraud case in North Dumfries Township involved a business email account being compromised and linked to the wrong bank account. Police believe e transfers sent by customers were redirected to a fraudulent account over several days in late July and early August. The case shows how a stolen email login can quickly lead to payment diversion for both businesses and residents who use e transfer and auto deposit. Sender Registry helps companies spot suspicious sender changes, impersonation, and payment redirection risks before money is sent to the wrong place.
