Fake parking QR codes target Manhattan drivers

5 October 2026 · Source: latination.com

New York authorities say fake QR code stickers were placed on Manhattan parking meters to send drivers to a lookalike payment site. The investigation began after a person noticed a suspicious sticker on a meter on East 10th Street, and officials later removed dozens of fraudulent stickers. A Brooklyn resident has been charged and has pleaded not guilty. This matters because parking scams can steal payment details and other personal information from people who are in a hurry and may not notice a fake sign. Businesses that manage fleets, travel, or employee parking need a way to spot lookalike payment pages and impersonation attempts before staff enter sensitive data. Sender Registry helps by identifying suspicious sender and payment related messages, reducing the chance that employees follow a scam link or trust a fake request.
